Abraham Ortelius' cornerstone map of Spain.
"In his 'Catalogus Auctorum' Ortelius names six authors of maps of the Iberian peninsula. There were thus sufficient sources available, but it is not mentioned on the map itself which original he used as a model. In 1571 Ortelius published in addition another large wall-map of Spain which had been drafted by Carolus Clusius (Charles de l'Ecluse). The six copperplates were cut by Joannes and Lucas van Deutecum. It is very probable that the map of Spain in the Theatrum was based on the Clusius map. Apart from a few small mistakes in the relative situations of towns and in the shape of the coastline (too strongly indended), it is an excellent map for the period."
